i have always struggled to understand why we poets do not get the recognition
we would like to get.
until i had a conversation with a
fellow poet.
his view was, that people dont necessarily
understand us poets
what we say and what we often mean.
not so long ago some guy told me
that my poetry is "too deep",
so that meant i had to dumb it down.
which meant that if i wrote
like that, whatever i would write would lose its meaning,
and he continued to say "then what about the people who gets your poetry?"
so i now understand how people view poetry
and now i dont really expect anyone to
like what i write,
because we get too many "oh,that was dope!"
comments, instead of what was the message,
or what insired it.
and then while attending a poetry session
some guy recites, and his friend whom is not a pote
jumped up and down with joy saying "that's my friend!!"
then one of the poets said, "why you excited?poets dont become famous"
which is true, well except Lebo Mashile.
poets aren't famous people but known
people there's a difference.
we would like to get.
